The Professional League Board (PLB) has condemned the tampering of the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) mechanism at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium after the crucial Week Nine Premier League clash involving Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak.
Four persons died and scores of fans injured as the two most glamorous clubs clashed in the titanic duel a fortnight ago, due to overcrowding at the 40,000 capacity stadium.
Following the President’s directive of an enquiry into the incident, the CCTV expected to be a main source of evidence was tampered with by some unidentified persons who allegedly deleted all the recordings.
A statement signed by Kweku Ampim-Darko, Deputy General Secretary in charge of Technical Affairs of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) copied to GNA Sports expressed the league organising body’s dissatisfaction of the act, which could have provided vital clues to security agencies in their quest to apprehend the culprits.
“The PLB urges informants to view the exercise as a national duty and assures them of absolute anonymity and some financial rewards.
“The PLB takes this opportunity to appeal to the general public to volunteer any information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators of this dastardly act.”
Hearts won the game 2-1.
