Former Ghana international, Laryea Kingston, has dismissed suggestions that ex-players will make good coaches if given the chance, stating that they will have to earn the needed experience to excel on the job.
According to him, former players need to go through the needed steps required in order to make an impact when given a technical job.
There have been calls for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to integrate ex-footballers at various levels of the country's football ecosystem and while some have already gotten the opportunity, others are also yet to be considered.
Speaking on Joy Sports Link, the Black Starlets assistant coach revealed that ex-footballers must earn the right to be given jobs in the football industry.
"When you are managing a football club, there are so many areas that former players can go into. But sometimes, you should have that competency of the job you are expecting someone to give you," he said.
"You should be competent enough. Most former players think 'because I have played football to the highest level I can be a coach. [No] You have to go through education to know where you are. Playing football is different."
In addressing these concerns, the GFA recently launched the Ghana Football School which will be a partnership with some tertiary institutions in Ghana to provide individuals with the requisite eduction needed in the football ecosystem.
