The Wenchi High Court has ruled that the state must compensate six individuals with GH₵45,000 each for injuries sustained during a shooting at the Techiman South Collation Centre during the 2020 general election.

The shooting occurred before Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah was declared MP, resulting in two deaths and several injuries.

The plaintiffs claimed their right to life was violated, while the state argued the shots were meant as warnings.

The court, however, deemed the use of force unjustified and rejected the state's defence. The plaintiffs' request for higher compensation was denied due to insufficient evidence.

In this regard, JoyNews’ The Law examined how this ruling fits within Ghana's legal framework, its implications for future elections, and whether justice is finally being realised for the victims of election-related violence.
