In a bid to empower young women with the necessary skills to thrive in the digital age, Plan International Ghana has organized a two-day workshop focused on digital entrepreneurship for 20 young women entrepreneurs. The event equipped participants with essential knowledge of business development, e-commerce strategies, social media marketing, and branding techniques.
The workshop, which is part of Plan International Ghana’s activities to mark International Women’s Day, was held in Ho, Volta Region.
The workshop brought together a diverse group of ambitious young women eager to make their mark in the world of online business. Facilitators from various fields of expertise led engaging sessions, providing valuable insights and practical guidance.
E-commerce emerged as a pivotal topic, given the increasing prominence of online platforms in the business landscape. Participants delved into the intricacies of setting up and managing an online store, understanding payment gateways, and optimizing the customer experience for increased sales.
The workshop also delved into effective social media marketing strategies, teaching participants how to leverage platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter to promote their brands and engage with customers.
The Manager of the Southern Impact and Influencing Area of Plan International Ghana, Sulemana Hor-Gbana, noted in an interview that the programming of Plan International Ghana is gender transformative. They ensure that they identify strategic partners who align with their purpose, and they strive to deliver programmes that address the needs of children and young women.
He explained that the two-day training for young women entrepreneurs is to equip them with the requisite skills to boost their businesses and create opportunities for them to thrive economically, translating into their total well-being.
He said, “Plan International Ghana's initiative underscores the importance of investing in the next generation of female entrepreneurs, paving the way for a more inclusive and prosperous future. We believe in supporting young women to realize their full potential through capacity-building in entrepreneurial skills."
Facilitating a session, the Ho Municipal Director of the Business Advisory Centre, Ghana Enterprise Agency (GEA), Adolphine Selase Donudenu, guided the participants through services they can access to grow their businesses. She urged them to take advantage of the several support services provided by the GEA as it aims to help entrepreneurs, especially women, to thrive.
Chief Executive Officer of TECHFARM Hub, Kobina Adomadzi Longdon, facilitated a session on Entrepreneurship Mindset and Startups, Marketing, Selling, and Digital Marketing. Participants learned how to develop viable business ideas and create sustainable business models. Through interactive sessions and group activities, they honed their entrepreneurial skills and gained a deeper understanding of market trends and customer needs.
Furthermore, he highlighted branding as a crucial element in building a successful online presence. Attendees learned the importance of brand identity, storytelling, and consistency in creating a strong brand image that resonates with their target market.
Ms. Peace, one of the participants, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to learn from industry experts.
"This workshop has been incredibly eye-opening for me. I've gained valuable knowledge that I can apply to my online boutique. I now feel more confident in taking my business to the next level," she remarked.
The workshop concluded on a high note, with participants leaving with newfound knowledge, inspiration, and a network of like-minded individuals. As they embark on their entrepreneurial journeys, they are poised to make a significant impact in Ghana's evolving digital landscape.
