It can be quite easy to turn a blind eye to the extent of devastation experienced in parts of Ghana by the recent spillage from the Akosombo and Kpong dams.
However, for the victims and volunteers involved in relief efforts in the Volta Region, the suffering is all too real.
It has been just a few weeks since the spillways of the dams were opened, redirecting its waters downstream, and the aftermath of this necessary action has proven to be beyond calculation.
Inhabitants along the Lower Volta Basin have been displaced, and the financial losses in terms of property are running into millions of cedis. Countless farms have been submerged.
The VRA initiated the spillage of excess water on September 15 due to rising water levels in the two hydro dams.
Amidst this crisis, women are among the most affected, as they are seen bravely caring for themselves and their children in the midst of the disaster.
Photojournalist Samuel Moore captured some of the emotions displayed during his visit to Mepe, one of the affected communities along the Lower Volta Basin.
Their eyes tell stories on their own.
