Lawyers of the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) were at the Supreme Court to formally file their petition against the results of the 2020 Presidential elections as declared by the Electoral Commission.
This was in line with Article 64(1) of the 1992 Constitution, which states that a petition challenging the validity of the election of the President should be filed at the Supreme Court within 21 days after the declaration of the results by the EC.
According to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, the NPP's flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo polled 6,730,413, representing 51.595% while the NDC's John Mahama garnered 6, 214, 889 representing 47.366% of the total valid votes.
The results has since been disputed by the NDC with former President John Dramani Mahama describing it as flawed and fictitious.
The team from the party was led by Lawyer Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe and National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi.
