The dialogue, themed "Defending Media Freedom," brought together key stakeholders, including government officials, journalists, and regulators, to discuss strategies that will ensure the press in Ghana is genuinely free to carry out its mandate.
The event addressed challenges such as political attacks on press freedom, threats against journalists, arrests, detentions, and even torture by state agencies, including the police, military, and political operatives, as the nation approaches the December 7 general elections.
The Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare delivered the keynote address. The panelists who spoke at the event included investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, JoyNews’ Samson Lardy Anyenini, and MFWA’s Sulemana Braimah.
Other speakers included Benjamin Banor-Bio of the Electoral Commission, Information Minister Fatimatu Abubakar, Dr Kenneth Ashigbey, and several others.
