Staff and Pupils of Careguide Montessori School, Gbawe, Accra, colourfully clad in various African outfits, marked African Union Day at school on Friday, May 24.
Lessons for the day featured various topics, including the history of the AU and its significance, promoting African identity and cultural values, contemporary African leaders as well as the geography of Africa.
A major highlight of the day was the colourful display of a variety of traditional snacks and beverages tagged with their local Ghanaian names.
The snacks included agbeli kaklo, adunlee, nkate cake, adakwa, aboloo, and yakeyake. Among the beverages were nmedaa, asaanaa, lamughin, millet drink, sobolo and melon juice.
As pupils experienced the culinary variety, their teachers explained their cultural origin, and local ingredients as well as health benefits to them.
Altogether, all pupils from crèche to Junior High School (JHS) 3, participated in the event to make it a very memorable one.
