A philanthropist, Akonta Felix Akakpo has gifted his home community, Lente-Wute in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region a fully furnished reproductive healthcare unit.
The facility which has four rooms would augment the care given to pregnant women, mothers, and newborn babies in the marginalized community, located along the Ghana-Togo border.
He also undertook an initiative to enhance sanitation and promote public health in the area by constructing a 10-seater modern sanitary facility for the community members.
Mr. Akakpo also financed the construction of a community information center to reach out to the wider community with public education among other vital activities.
His benevolence also brought to an end community members relying on unwholesome water for domestic use. He constructed a water system that would provide sustainable potable water.
Speaking at the commissioning of the projects, Mr. Akakpo said he was moved by the intuition to contribute to the well-being of his people, hence initiating the projects.
“The construction of the Reproductive and Child Health care units exemplifies our commitment to the well-being of our women and children. These units will serve as a vital healthcare resource, offering essential services such as family planning unit, child vaccinations, and reproductive health education. By investing in the health of our women and children, we invest in the future of our community”, he said.
He said the information center would serve as a hub for information and resources, enabling individuals to access important educational materials, job opportunities, and other essential information.
Mr. Akakpo is very optimistic the centre would contribute to enhancing human resources in the enclave to propel development.
He entreated other worthy residents to emulate his gesture to help develop the community to improve livelihoods.
“I will end here by calling on all stakeholders to bring their hands on deck to emulate good works such as the one we are seeing here today. Let’s all continue to do good for good will follow us”, he concluded.
