Chairman of Parliament's Privileges Committee Joe Osei Owusu says petitions against Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, outside what the Speaker referred to the committee will not influence their judgment on the issue.
The committee is due to meet today to decide on modalities that will guide the probe into contempt charges against the MP for calling for the beating up of Luv FM's Erastus Asare Donkor.
“The real meeting is at 2 to agree on the modalities so that people know what rules will apply, which part of the standing orders and constitution applies and then how we go about taking evidence as a committee like this.
"This is just largely a preparation meeting towards the proceeding," he added.
Since the referral, a number of petitions have been published including one on Change.org asking for the MP to be removed from the Defence and Interior Committee.
The Multimedia Group Limited has also sent one to the committee. But Mr Osei Owusu says the committee is focused.
“I’m only aware of only one petition, by Mr Speaker, in this court, we don’t have the liberty to receive a petition from anywhere else.
"Any matter we will consider, only a matter of fairness to the Committee by Mr Speaker so if anybody has any issue, I think that they should take it to through the formal process of submitting its petition to Mr Speaker. If Mr Speaker considers it worthy of being investigated, will refer to the committee,” he said.
