Victor Adawudu, a member of the legal team for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), has stated that the petition seeking the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo is not driven by political motives.
Addressing concerns over the petition's intentions, Mr. Adawudu emphasised that the legal action is based on legitimate grounds and adheres to constitutional procedures.
"People think that it is politically motivated, it is not," he said while discussing the matter on JoyNews' Newsfile on Saturday, March 29.
The petition, filed by three unknown individuals, alleges misconduct and abuse of power by Chief Justice Torkornoo.
In response, President John Mahama has initiated consultations with the Council of State, as mandated by Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution, to determine the validity of the claims.
This development has sparked discussions among legal experts and politicians. Some have expressed concerns about potential political influences, while others stress the importance of upholding judicial accountability.
