Director of Electoral Services at EC, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe.

The EC is warning that persons who fail to adhere to Covid-19 safety protocols, especially social distancing, will be sacked from registration centers.

According the Commission all provisions have duly been made to ensure the safety of all persons who will be taking part in the exercise hence, the EC will have no other option to dismiss persons who fail to comply at various centers.

"We should take our health situation into our own hands because if the EC asks you to wash your hand and you refuse, the EC insists that you wear your face masks and you refuse, what we can do is to sack you from the center," Director of Electoral Services at the Commission, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe said on Joy FM.

Today marks the beginning of a registration exercise intended to provide a “new  and credible voter register” for the country.

Ahead of the exercise , the Commission assured Ghanaians of their safety during the exercise.

The EC says all the necessary provisions to ensure the safety of persons who take part in the exercise have been made, therefore, the Commission expects all persons to strictly adhere to the protocols.

Meanwhile, during a visit to some registration centres when the exercise started on Tuesday, JoyNews reporters found that registrants are not adhering to the protocols.

JoyNews’ Maxwell Agbagba observed from the Odododiodoo Constituency that some people failed to wear face masks.

In other reports Volta Regional Correspondent Ivy Setordzie gathered similar incidents from registration centers in the Volta region.

When the EC's attention was drawn to the matter, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe insisted that all provisions have been made, however, it behooves citizens to adhere to the protocols.

“We have given our officials the thermometer guns, we have given them veronica buckets and the hand sanitizers so ill be surprised that people are not using them,"

He urged the media to continue to educate the public on the need to observe the safety the public protocols while taking part in the exercise.

"You know people have their own way of responding to issues so we should all help in informing people that, when they get to the centers they need to wash their hands, use their sanitizers and wear their face masks," he said.
