The Africa 2018 Forum held in Sharm El- Sheikh from the 8th to the 9th of December 2018 aims at providing a platform for heads of state and government as well as private sector and business leaders in Africa and the world in order to discuss a wide range of business and development issues in the Continent and to engage with some of Africa’s most important economic partners and stakeholders.

The Women Empowering Africa session of the forum was created to celebrate those in the media who bring African women, their stories and vital contributions and achievements to the fore.

It will also highlight the power of the media to increase public awareness of women’s empowerment, and to advocate for faster changes from governments, the corporate world, and society as a whole in embracing and facilitating gender equality in Africa.

The Head of Digital Media and Partnership for Forbes Africa, Peace Hyde, was amongst the panel conversation that sought to explore the issue of gender parity in the newsroom across Africa.

Joining her on the panel was former M-NET Managing Director Biola Alabi, General Electric Africa Chief Communications Officer Patricia Obozuwa and moderated by the Editor of New Africa Woman Regina Jere-Malanda.

The panel also brought insights from leading women in the field, sharing their successes, experiences and the challenges they experienced along the way.

The panel also looked at the representation of women in media newsrooms and management structures to guarantee greater coverage of women in politics, business, civil society and as vital agents of change, development and innovation in Africa.
