The politics of sectionalism and exclusion introduced into the Ghanaian political fabric by the NPP was recently emphasized by the deep seated politico-cultural hegemonic utterances made by the temper-tantrum and beleaguered Member of Parliament for Assin North, Kennedy Agyepong. The "ALL DIE BE DIE" party sorts to condemn the utterances in one way, but hailed the MP for having made such comments after he was partially left off the hook by the courts.
It will interest well meaning Ghanaians to know that the NDC may not be the best party in Ghana. But is the most predictable for overseeing the affairs of a peaceful nation like ours, due to its national character, orientation and representation. I wonder if any NDC supporter or member can stand on a platform and call for the heads of a section of Ghanaians to be smashed because they are perceived as non supporters of the NDC. That will be a venomous statement to make and can result in an intra party (NDC) ethnic conflict and cannot be justified by any unscrupulous individual or group of persons, let alone shower the garrulous war monger with tumultuous applause to further exacerbates the already volatile political atmosphere created in time past by a group of self-seeking individuals. This is because the NDC has an equally important citizens or individuals from all the existing tribal settings in Ghana and cannot afford to eliminate any group and still maintain its national character. The P.V. Obengs, the Kwabena Duffours, the Oteng Adjeis, the Kumbuors, the Mahamas, the Rawlingses, the Mabengbas, the Ahwois, the Spio Garbrahs, the Doe Adjahos etc are people of different ethnic groupings within the NDC without whom the NDC is no political party. Probably, the foul mouthed MP for Assin north has realized that there are no Gas or Ewes in the NPP and can afford to wipe them out of the Ghanaian societal fabric without any impediment to their political fortune. Have we as Ghanaians paused to ask ourselves why the aforementioned NDC personalities including those whose names I have not mentioned here are capable of annexing the flag-bearership position of the NDC without qualms? The NDC sees its members as Ghanaians first. Hence, the non-apprehension about the origin and tribe of its flag-bearer or running mate.
At this juncture, I want to challenge the NPP to the fact that their party orientation and the disposition of their members show categorically that the NPP cannot and will not entrust their flagbearership position into the hands of any other group of persons, no matter how strongly bonded they were to the NPP because they are non Ashantis or Akyems. There were times in the history of our country, Ghana, in the immediate past, where district/municipal chief executives, regional and deputy regional ministers do not necessarily hail from their areas of jurisdiction, but have delivered unfathomed quality leadership services without tribal hindrances. The same cannot be said of today because a syndicate of political xenophobic grouping (NPP) succeeded in polarizing and intoxicating the ordinary Ghanaian with tribal sentiments within its 8 year rule.
Before the advent of election 2000 which brought the NPP to the corridors of power, many Ghanaians did not care about where their DCE or regional ministers hailed from. Mr Nuamah Donkor was the last Ashanti regional minister before the NPP won election in year 2000. To the best of my knowledge, he hails from the Eastern Region but was ambidextrous in his duties and the Ashanti's reciprocated his love in equal measure. Ghanaians were oblivious of tribal sentiments and accepted one another as brothers and sisters working for a common goal before year 2000. That cannot be said of today’s Ghana, because the NPP for 8 years, sowed a capricious seed that brought to the fore, the culture of tribal segregation, ineptitude and nepotism. Hence, the suggestion to the convenience of Ashantis to "kill Ewes and Gas" by Kennedy Agyapong, was just a confirmation of the purported plan by a group of individuals who believe that any party that has the mandate of Ghanaians was illegal. In effect, only people from tribes inclined to the NPP have the mental acumen to govern Ghana. After all, there are respected and well informed Ashantis in other political parties, just as in NPP and Ghana cannot allow myopic minded individuals who are undeserving of the title of an honourable parliamentarian to plunge this lovely country into an ethnic war!!!!!
