Political parties have agreed on a code of conduct to guide campaigning in Tamale.
This follows violent clashes between the supporters of the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress in Tamale and Gushiegu that claimed at least three lives.
There were fears of reprisal attacks after the month long Ramadan fasting, with allegations of stock piling of arms by supporters of political parties.
In a bid to ease tension in the region ahead of the December polls, representatives of the New Patriotic Party, National Democratic Congress, Convention People’s Party, People’s National Convention and the Democratic Freedom Party were made to sign a peaceful undertaking from the Northern Regional House of Chiefs.
Registrar of the House of Chiefs John Barbena told Joy news circumstances under which the parties signed the proposal.
"The parties were called to the meeting, people expressed their opinions and the house sought pledges from them."
The chiefs have also resolved to remain neutral as a way restore confidence and to solve conflict situations that may arise.
However no agreement was reached on punitive measures to be meted out to any of the parties who violate the code.
