Flag-bearers of the main political parties rushed to the Kantamanto fire scene to sympathise with the people.
The move is widely believed to be aimed at achieving political gains.
The parties deny hoping to make political gains out of the visits.
Following a fire disaster that hit the market claiming millions of cedis worth of properties, the flag-bearer of the NDC, Prof. John Atta Mills and that of the CPP, Dr. Paaa Kwesi Nduom and wife of Nana Akufo-Addo, NPP flag-bearer were at the scene.
The Communications Director of the Prof Mills Campaign, Koku Anyidoho said the visit was in recognition of the fact that the affected persons included both members of the NPP and the NDC.
He said Prof. Mills did not hope to make any political gains.
According to him, since the NDC does not control the public purse, there is very little the party can do to alleviate the suffering of the people.
For him, all the NDC could and which it did is to call on the government to find a way of compensating the people.
The Campaign Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Jake Obetsebetse-Lamptey, who accompanied Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo to the disaster scene, agreed with Mr. Anyidoho of the non-political nature of the visits.
He told Joy FM’s Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said the visit was to enable the government to asses the extent of damage and to determine what support to give to the people.
He said the market will be modernised at part of the NPP flag-bearer’s agenda to modernise the country.
That, according to him, will avert unfortunate incidents such as the fire disaster.
