Parliament approves Ghana Revenue Authority bill

The Ghana Revenue Authority bill has been passed into law but its implementation will not be immediate. Deputy Finance Minister Seth Terkper explains it will take a number of processes before the eventual integration of the three revenue agencies. In an interview with Joy Business, Mr Terkpeh said besides the physical integration of processes, there will be consultations with stakeholders including the tax officers and tax payers and enough education before the IRS, VAT and CEPS will be merged under one umbrella known as the Ghana Revenue Authority. Mr Terkpeh said as part of programmes to implement the bill, all revenue institutions will be moved onto an electronic platform. Meanwhile, central bank governor Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has promised to work on resolving the bank’s lack of a board. The bank has been without one for the past ten months after a former member Sam Okudzeto went to court over the dissolution of the last board to which he belonged by the new administration. The case is still in court but the governor says it is hampering the work of the bank. Source: Joy Business/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
