Black Queens head coach Nora Hauptle has praised her team's second-half performance in their game against Benin on Tuesday, October 31, while admitting the opening half was tough.
Ghana edged out their counterparts at the Accra Sports Stadium with a 2-0 win in the second leg of the 2024 Olympic Games qualifier having won 3-0 in the first meeting.
The performance in Accra was a repetition of the first leg when they failed to score a first-half goal in Cotonou before bringing on their A game in the second half.
Speaking with the media after the game, Hauplte expressed worry over the team's performance in the opening 45 minutes before commending their reaction after recess.
She also mentioned that the team needs to learn how to fight back and that's their mandate.
In the second half, the team performed much better. Naura Hauptle was pleased to see that all the enhancements they made brought freshness, quality, and technique to the game. The team kept improving as the game progressed. She believed that it was a well-deserved victory for them. However, she also mentioned that they missed some chances and could have scored more.
"I think in the first half, we put ourselves in difficulties. I told the team in the break that when we didn't do the simple things...So the technical executions, passes, first touches [and] crosses were not good and this can happen, it's football," she noted.
"We didn’t have the best game in the beginning but we need to learn to fight a team and that is our mandate. I think in the second half, it went much better. Also, it was good to see all the changes we did brought freshness, quality [and] technique so the team went better and better.
"It's a much-deserved victory but we missed some chances, we could have scored more," she added.
The Black Queens advance to the next stage of the qualifiers where they will meet Zambia in February.
