Paris 2024: French Embassy holds pre-departure training for Ghananain volunteers

A two-day training for Ghanaian volunteers for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games has concluded in Accra ahead of the multi-sport event in July and August this year.

The event was held at Alliance Francaise in Accra on Monday and Tuesday. The ten volunteers were selected from various sporting federations in Ghana.

The two-day pre-departure training was organised by the French Embassy in collaboration with France Volontaires.

The training is aimed at equipping the volunteers with relevant knowledge about how to navigate their way around Paris and contain possible cultural shocks.

Fofogan Doku, Volunteering Development Officer at France Volontaires, said, “The training that they've had so far, we are confident that these young people are ready to go and fully fulfill the mission for which they are embarking on their journey to France.

“So for them to really experience the French culture, we have planned in collaboration with France Volontaires to offer them a mission of eight months.

“So starting from May to December, and some will be staying for one year.”

Volunteers say they are now better equipped to execute their duties at the 2024 Olympic Games.

“Yes, actually it's been an eye-opener. We've received a lot of information, helpful information as to getting there, how to live life and a couple of other things regarding our work as volunteers as well. So yes, it's been very helpful,” a volunteer Amanda Maasomwin Bezagrebere, said.

Another volunteer, Rauf Norfam, said, “I think I'm equally ready for the task. From the beginning we were having many thoughts and prejudices about France.

“But yesterday and today's seminars have been very insightful to us and have been able to equip us with a lot of information, the weather, and the people, how we'll be able to stay in France for the duration that we'll be giving out our service to the French government and to the Olympics Games as well.”
