The chiefs and people of Oyibi in the Kpone-Katamanso Constituency of the Greater Accra Region, a preparing feverishly for the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Ghana's Independence.
Some activities planned for the celebrations subtitled: "Championing African Excellence--The Oyibi Response", are Gospel Rock Show, Quiz competition, Hip-life Jam and prayer sessions.
Mr Hopeson Adoye, Assemblyman for Oyibi, announced these at the launch of the programme at Oyibi near Tema on Saturday.
He said the community was always neglected when it came to the celebrations of national days and appealed to the government to consider the community to get its fair share of the national cake.
Mr Adoye said so far the community had acquired a cassava-processing machine, which would enable the members of the community to go into other venture by way of offering them employment.
He said the community would soon open a secondary school and also appealed to the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports to assist them in this direction.
Mr Ken Amankwaah, Events Coordinator of Ghana at 50 Secretariat, commended the chiefs and people for being the first community to launch the celebrations.
He said 50 years in the life of a person was a golden opportunity, which called for reflection and the legacy one wanted to leave.
Mr Amankwaah charged the youth to be law-abiding, respect one another and also organize clean-up exercises so that they could rid the community of filth.
