The New Patriotic Party (NPP) can only win the next election if the Ministry of Agriculture is able to deliver on its mandate, Andrews Kwame Pianim has said.
According to statesman and founding member of the governing party, the Minister, Dr Owusu Akoto Afriyie holds two of the four pillars needed to break the jinx of ruling the country beyond two consecutive terms.
"This man is responsible for 1 and 2 of the 4 pillars that will make sure that the party his father fought so hard to help us establish, that this party will break the jinx of the two terms of the 8 elections that we have had, NDC has won 4, NPP has won 4.
"If the Minister for Food and Agriculture is able to rejuvenate and mechanize agriculture to increase output and remove the yield deficits. If he's able to do this and the 1 District 1 Factory gets the output to process for the young people to have good-paying jobs, those are the two pillars", the investment consultant noted.
Kwame Pianim added that the other two pillars that will help the NPP win the next election will be Free SHS and ending corruption in the country.
"The other two pillars, Free Senior High School to improve the quality of our manpower for the development and the fourth one is stopping bribery and corruption that has been holding us back all these years," the respected economist continued.
He was speaking at the Re Akoto Memorial Lectures organized by the Ghana School of Law at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. This year's was the 16th since the inception the lecture.
The theme for this year's commemoration was: "The legacy of Baffour Osei Akoto: A family man, a chief and a statesman."
Both the NPP and NDC have won 4 elections each since the inception of the 4th Republic but none of these two dominant political parties have governed beyond two terms, a situation that has led the ruling NPP to launch a "Break the 8" campaign geared towards winning the 2024 election.
The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has predicted victory for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 presidential elections. This prediction is largely in line with the country's electoral history.
