President Akufo-Addo has highlighted the substantial progress made in road infrastructure in the Volta region under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
Since taking office in January 2017, the government has completed the construction of 432 kilometres of roads.
Addressing the community during the 2023 Hogbetsotso festival in Anloga, under the theme; "Climate Change - a challenge to lands below sea level, a concern of the Anlo State and the stakeholders," President Akufo-Addo specifically mentioned key projects.
These include the dualisation of the 22km Ho main road, the 30km Have to Kpando road, and the upgrading of the Golokwati-Wli road.
Furthermore, he outlined several other road improvement initiatives, including resealing, gravelling, and surfacing of various routes, benefiting different communities in the region.
"As of the end of 2022, 366 km, that is 74 per cent of the Corridor had improved from poor to good state. This has had a positive impact on the movement of goods and people along the corridor.”
Additionally, the President highlighted ongoing projects like the 5.3km Ho By-Pass dualisation and the upgrading of 8km of selected roads in Ketu South.
Regarding the Eastern Corridor Roads, he noted a significant improvement from 27 percent in good condition at the end of 2016 to 74 percent by the end of 2022. President Akufo-Addo also mentioned the termination of contracts for certain roads due to contractor non-performance, with plans to re-package and re-award these projects.
Moreover, the government has secured funding of 89 million US dollars from the African Development Bank for the construction of the 29.35 km Asutsuare Junction to Volivo road, as well as other road projects in the pipeline.
