The Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) says the surge in active Covid-19 cases in the country shows that the virus was never defeated.
Dr Winfred Baah said the reduced number of cases and related deaths only made health professions, the citizenry and government relax with the preventive measures.
"We were all very comfortable and happy that we almost defeated Covid-19. The trace, test, and treatment worked along the lines, but these measures were all relaxed at a point.
"Contact tracing wasn't done as vigorously as it was at the peak," he said.
Dr Baah who was speaking in an interview with JoyNews' Evans Mensah on PM Express, acknowledged the shortcomings of the various stakeholders.
He, however, assured Ghanaians of a medical reinforcement that would help save the current situation.
Dr Baah explained that the Association has started a nationwide campaign to educate Ghanaians on the virus and the need to return to the various Covid-19 safety protocols.
The GMA Greater Accra Regional Secretary said it is time to go back to wearing of face masks and washing of one's hands with soap under running water.
“When we travel, we realize people just don’t wear their mask, they don't observe social distancing either.
"This exercise will therefore create and maintain a form of behavioural change towards defeating the virus," he concluded.
