It is always a joyous moment for me and my friends when a David defeats a Goliath. It doesn't matter when or where or how the victory is won. A long dragged-out victory is the sweetest.
In a world where the underdog is always at the mercy of the top dog, it is refreshing to see or hear (or read in this case) of the occasional victory of the underdog over one of the powerful people in the society.
No wonder the women of old, God bless their souls, sang the praises of David, the underdog, after he defeated Goliath, the Philistine champion. It was a relatable victory by all standards.
And so it was for me and my friends of the underdog class when we heard of Anas' court victory over the loud-mouthed self-acclaimed mighty one of this land of our birth. I refuse to refer to beautiful Ghana as the land of our death like my cynical friends do. And to think that the victory was won in a court in far away USA, makes it sweeter than honey.
By the way, some people in this land of our birth refer to themselves as the 'political class'. Pray tell me what does that mean? The caveat from me is; I'm not sure Anas is really one of us, the underdog class of this land of our birth.
The 'true underdog' can only dream of getting a visa to Uncle Sam (US). And if that dream is realized today, Donald Trump would be waiting for him at the airport to deport him to this shithole country. Hey, don't get upset with me; Trump said it; not me.
Do I agree with Trump? Who am I? And what does it matter whether I agree or disagree? The president of the free world referred to African countries as shithole countries and the elite of this land of our ... did not protest. If they did, their voices were too feeble to be heard beyond their bedrooms. And I guess their wives are not transmitters so we did not hear their objection. By the way, we do have women among the elite; it's just that they are not many or? But I digress, so back to the main subject.
Anas A. Anas is a pain in the neck of the corrupt in the society, the elite/political class not excluded. In his early incarnation he generally shone the light on corruption among the underdogs, so the elite hailed his work as the best thing to happen to us since sliced bread (do we say that in Ghana?). The political class even talked about using the 'Anas principle' to fight corruption. It was a campaign promise, remember?
Then one day Anas got up and touched the gatekeepers of justice in this land of our... Big mistake? Suddenly the entire underdog class were hailing him as well. And we underdogs when we hail you it can go straight into your head like wine (or ...) He wanted more from us, so he touched the football people including their elite. At once all hell broke loose.
The political class (or the elite?) took offence and went on the attack. People; don't attack the political class, if you do blood will flow and it will not be their blood. Remember Ahmed Suale? Was he one of them? I hope you get the drift.
So; Anas got too close to the political class and they went on the offensive, led by the foul-mouthed member of the class. Oh; did he attack Anas? The dude was all over the place with his attacks, he openly recommended violence on Anas' person and no one in this land of our... called him to order. Then somebody very close to Anas died, and Anas became desperate. He needed to fetch water to place by his beard; just in case. Is he bearded? I can't see beyond that stylish mask.
So; Anas took his case to the gatekeepers of justice, the very elite he had exposed to the scorn of the underdog class. And he, naively, expected them to give him justice against one of their own - the very loud mouthed one. That is the act of a desperate man.
People, do you remember what a 'boy-boy' of this seemingly powerful member of the political class did to a former IGP, who was supposed to be their 'friend'? The former IGP took the boy-boy to court and the gatekeeper of justice evoked the name of the foul-mouthed one. The big 'Koti' had to flee the court with 'his tail between his legs'. Perhaps he would fight again another day.
Now back to Anas, we are celebrating him and his victory, remember? So; in the first court, the gatekeeper went on a verbal/legal offence against Anas who was the aggrieved party in the case. This gatekeeper was so violent a senior gatekeeper had to protest; "hey, beat him small, you are beating him to pulp. Anas is not a big man leave some of him for us senior gatekeepers"
So; Anas was down but not knocked out. He went to the senior gatekeepers and they did not treat him any better. This is where the true underdog will give up and give it to God. But Anas is not your regular underdog. He took the foul-mouthed one to the land of Uncle Sam. Tell me; who does that? Anyway, in the land of the free, the loudmouth was like a fish out of water. He was gasping for air; the bully had met his 'meeter'. Oh; what a beautiful story!
I watched the video, the version available for the underdogs, and I did not see his usual bravado. He looked tamed and defeated; thoroughly humiliated... and now he has to make Anas rich.
But, people, it is so sad that we live in Ghana but we have to travel to USA to obtain justice. How many of us can afford it? And you say we are not in a shithole country?
