Old Tafo Department of The Ministry of Food and Agriculture has organized a food training workshop for caterers under the school feeding program to improve the quality of food.
According to the Department, the step is part of efforts to ensure that children eat healthy, and high-quality food across basic schools in the municipality.
The Caterers were trained on many areas including how to use Soyabean to prepare Banku, Kebab, Apapransa, Kontomere stew among others.
Speaking to JoyNews after the training, some of the participants hailed the initiative taken by the assembly.
They believe the training will help to improve the quality of food, especially with the introduction of soybeans.
They said that, given the significant amount of high-quality protein and vitamins contained in soybeans, it will go a long way towards strengthening children and improving their health.
One of the trainees, Emily Owusu said, "we've learned a lot of things today, one of them is how to use Soyabean to prepare foods like Banku, rice balls, Apapransa, Kontomere stew among others."
She added that soybean can be a substitute for meat in a diet.
"With this training, we will now ensure that all our meals are mixed with Soyabean for the children."
In-Charge of Women in Agricultural Development (WIAD), Ama Kukua Osei Mensah, said the training is one of the nutritious activities being carried out by the department.
Madam Mensah appealed to residents to take advantage of the training to change their diets for healthy growth.
