Singer/ composer, Ohene Agyeman, previously referred to in showbiz circles as Jah Glory, will launch an EP of new songs on Saturday, March 4 at Dadi’s Bar, Koforidua in the Eastern Region.
Titled Mafe No, the title track is a bubbly, love-themed highlife piece in Twi. Missing his lover, Ohene sings about the desire to be with her, no matter what weather conditions he has to endure to get to her.
Saxophonist Patrick Asabere of the Ghana Immigration Band, plays delightfully throughout the track recorded at Ultimate Vibes and Norsway Studios in Accra and mastered at Phase One Studio in Ontario, Canada.
Ohene is a vastly experienced hand on the Ghanaian live music scene. Born in Takoradi, he turned professional around 1991. He has sung with several groups including the Magnificent 2 of the Second Battalion of Infantry, Sappers, The Fish Band, Megastar, Western Diamonds and Oguaaman Int. He has also worked with Kojo Antwi.
Listening to Ohene, one discerns influences from other singers like Pat Thomas, Paapa Yankson, Felix Owusu and Kojo Antwi. He has, however, managed to hone his own pleasant approach to the highlife and the other contemporary styles he delivers.
“I always listen to good singers from here and elsewhere,” says Ohene. “That’s why I’m able to work out my own technique to my songs.”
According to the singer, apart from performing material from the new EP at the launch, he will also render material from his previous Bra and Bolambo albums.
Artistes scheduled to support Ohene at the 7.00pm Dadi’s Bar launch event include Akatakyie, Squadges, Shasha Marley and Pat Thomas.
