Officials of the Built Environment of Ghana have paid a joint visit to inspect Ghana's first infectious disease centre at the Ga East Hospital, Kwabenya.
The visit by the Built Environment on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, was intended to inspect the work and its readiness ahead of the official commissioning by President Nana Akufo-Addo on Friday, July 24, 2020.
Coincidentally, the Covid-19 National Trust Fund team, led by its chairperson, former Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo, was also at the site to inspect the facility ahead of its official commissioning on Friday.
Speaking at the meeting before the touring of the facility, the President of Ghana Institution of Engineering, Ing. Alexander Leslie Ayeh, recounted that on January, 7, 2017, President Akufo-Addo admonished Ghanaians to be citizens and not spectators, and believed that the building of the facility was a direct response to that statement.
Ing. President Ayeh stated there had been great sacrifice from the Built Environment and it has been worth it.
“In the annals of the history of our beloved country, the name of the ‘Built Environment” shall be boldly inscribed and generations to come will also stand up and be counted in critical times”, Ing. Ayeh added.
On her part, Justice, Sophia Akuffo,said that the building of the facility by local Engineers demonstrate ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ vision statement by government.
She then applauded the Built Environment professionals for the quality of work done.
The Managing Trustee of the Covid-19 Private Sector Fund, Senyo Hosi, also stressed that Ghanaian Engineers and other professionals from the Built Environment came together to put up this facility that is first of its kind in the country.
The Built Environment professional bodies who took part in the touring of the facility included: Dr. John Amaglo – President of Ghana Institute of Surveyors, Arch. S.M. Quartey – President of Ghana Institute of Architects and Ing. Alexander Leslie Ayeh- President of Ghana Institution of Engineering.
