The Obuasi Municipal Assembly collected more than 866,000 Ghana Cedis as internally generated revenue for last year, representing 98.31 percent of the targeted revenue of 881,820.77 Ghana cedis for the year.
Mr. Joe Boampong, the Municipal Chief Executive who said this at an assembly meeting at Obuasi, attributed the short fall to the inability of Attab Consultancy Services, a revenue collection agency tasked to collect property rate outside that of AngloGold Ashanti, to achieve its target.
He said the assembly was able to record over 100 percent performance in some of the revenue items including land, fees, licenses, rent and miscellaneous.
On land the assembly collected 53,119.00 Ghana Cedis out of the projected revenue of 39,200.00 Ghana cedis representing 135.51 percent whilst 137,449.60 Ghana cedis was collected out of the projected revenue of 91,244.80 Ghana Cedis under fees items.
Mr. Boampong said under licenses, the projected revenue of 39,429.80 Ghana cedis was exceeded by 7,805.15 Ghana cedis whilst 54,809.56 Ghana cedis out of the estimated revenue of 18,610.40 Ghana cedis were collected representing 294.51 percent.
He commended revenue collectors on their performance during the year. “I think the revenue collectors need to be commended for this remarkable achievement”.
On education, he said the assembly would continue to enforce and strengthen measures instituted to improve the standard of education in the municipality since the municipality was performing well in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
“For six consecutive years, we have been the best district in the Ashanti Region in the BECE and for four years, we have been the best district in the BECE on the national scale, a position we are determined to guard jealously forever’, Mr. Boampong said.
