Hiplife musician Bice Osei Kuffuor known in showbiz as Obour has been appointed by the National Tuberculosis Control Programme as its ambassador for the next two years.
The ambassadorial role runs from 2011 to 2013 and during that period, Obour will spearhead a national campaign to educate and create awareness on the deadly but curable disease that is gaining grounds in the country.
Obour confirmed the appointment in an interview with Hitz Entertainment News and said that after embarking on several campaigns including a campaign on road safety, this is one project that is really dear to his heart.
“Last year I was approached by the National Tuberculosis Control Programme. They’ve seen some of my works; like my road safety campaign, my Ghana Reads campaign and they believe that Tuberculosis is one project that is being under publicized… Upon schooling myself…I realize that TB is as deadly as HIV is,” he narrated.
Obour disclosed that, he will be releasing a song and a video in Sunyani on March 24 which happens to be World TB Day to help his nationwide campaign.
“This is an epidemic that needs to be spoken about. So I, together with the National Tuberculosis Control Programme designed a concept, [recorded] a song and a music video… this year on the 24th of March will be launching this project in Sunyani on World TB Day.”
This year’s World TB Day will be under the theme: On the move against Tuberculosis – Innovate to accelerate action.
The two-year intensive nationwide campaign will seek to educate, create awareness on TB with a core theme that TB is curable.
Obour explained that his focus will be “To educate the masses on TB, the fact that TB is curable, the fact that TB treatment is free and it is available here in Ghana and the fact that if somebody has TB and the person is on his or her drugs for two weeks the TB is no more transferable”.
