Ghana's Obodai Sai suffered a shocking defeat in the WBO Middleweight Title eliminator bout against Namibian Walter Kautondokwa.
The bout took place at the Bukom Boxing Arena with Black Stars skipper and boxing promoter Asamoah Gyan, former World champions Azumah Nelson as well as Ike Quartey plus Former Sports Minister Nii Lantey Vanderpuiye in attendance.
A fight many thought would travel twelve rounds ended prematurely as the Nambian outclassed the Ghanaian.
In round one, Kautondokwa dominated Sai by landing the perfect punches.Sai came into the fight strongly in round two and three as he connected left and right hooks.
In round 4, Kautondokwa hurt Sai with a ferocious left hook, the Ghanaian stood his ground to trade punches with the Nimibian.Kautondokwa ended matters in the round 5 as he sent the Ghanaian to the canvas with a powerful right hook. Sai failed to respond to the referee’s (Roger Barnor) call forcing the latter to end the fight.
Kautondokwa has improved his record to (15-0, 14 KO’s), while Sai is now (32-3, 24 KO’s).
The fight put together by Lions was initially Kautondokwa’s title defence but was later upgraded to a WBO world title elimination bout. This means the Central African is now closer to facing the likes of Kazakhstan’s WBA, WBC, IBF, and IBO middleweight titles super champ Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin.
