Obed to swoop on NDC stronghold

Dr. Obed Asamoah, Founder of the Democratic Freedom Party, will be entering one of the major camps of the National Democratic Congress (NDC); Odododiodoo, on Sunday, October 7. His aim and that of his DFP is to ensure that Odododiodoo, a hotbed of indigenous Accra politics is taken by the DFP in the 2008 elections. The platform will be the Odododiodoo, the hotbed of Tokyo Joe and Bomb-throwing politics of yore. Obed has reacted to that in a brief chat with GO saying, however, that he will not be frightened by any threats because he has his security machine steady on the ground in any part of the country. "Have you heard about any threats?" he quipped, when GO asked him how ready he was security-wise, in entering the turbulent NDC stronghold. "I. .. as Obed ... have no fears; politics is about taking risks and that is what we are doing ... The DFP is also strong and on the ground like any other party; and we have our men in Odododiodoo, probably even stronger, than any other party ... We are not scared ... " Obed, the nation's longest serving and most active politician his age, GO sources in the DFP say, has already done his homework very well in the National Democratic Congress stronghold and poached quite a significant number of influential home boys and opinion leaders, including fishermen and fishmongers in the fishing community. When the paper called the Greater Accra Regional Organiser and leading member of the party, Nikoi Addison, he confirmed the deft moves by the party, adding that a major highlight of the storming of the DFP into Odododiodoo is the inauguration of constituency executives, after which the, party at the national level will begin another series of quiet but effective campaigns in constituencies nationwide in preparation for the 2008 elections. Plans, he stated, are also underway by the party to begin preparing lists of candidates that will run for Parliament in the 2009 Legislature. "The DFP has as usual stuck to its major campaign strategy which is meeting and wooing converts in little groups and cells; and this is producing stunning results for us, because converts have the opportunity to ask questions and make contributions to the party which they are beginning to become aware is for them and has their welfare at heart ... " The move by the DFP to officially enter Odododiodoo is one of the major political programmes the founder will be engaged in since his return from Europe in an official trip to sell the party outside and open external branches of the DFP. Over there, he also met groups and business interests who have expressed interest in the philosophy of the DFP as a moderate political force, which has continued national peace and stability at the core of its campaign programmes and working philosophy, as a major step in moving Ghana forward. The party, he affirmed has made significant inroads in Brong-Ahafo, North Volta, indigenous Accra and the three Northern regions. Source: Ghanaian Observer
