Ghanaian optometrist and comedian, OB Amponsah, made history on December 21, 2024, when he filled the 4,000 capacity Bukom Boxing Arena with his 10th anniversary comedy show.
This has been described by creative industry stakeholders as an unprecedented achievement in Ghana's comedy space because it is the first time a Ghanaian comedian has been able to fill a bigger venue for a comedy show.
According to OB Amponsah, after filling smaller spaces over the years, he was convinced that taking up the challenge of holding his 10th anniversary at much bigger place would elevate the Ghanaian comedy narrative they have been championing for the past years.
OB Amponsah had the audience in stitches with hilarious jokes. His themes ranged from politics, relationship, sex, to some outlandish subjects that cannot broached in ordinary discussions. What sets OB apart from a number of contemporaries is his boldness to traverse slippery areas of themes - and he brought that to bear in his presentation on the night.
The event also saw a number of Ghanaian comedians on stage, performing to the admiration of patrons. A lot of their comedy materials were based on the December 7 election, giving the people something they can easily relate to.
There were amazing acts by DKB, Jacinta, Ebenezer Dwomoh, Ranzy Ray, Smile, Kwaku40, Kojo Pjay, Oojoo, Papa Yaw, Putogo, Foster Romanus, Jerry Ashinyo, Kwame Obed, Canadian comedian Emerson, Miriam Kirk from the USA and Johnny Pula from Botswana.
Ghanaian comedian Lekzy DeComic put up an outstanding performance as MC of the show. The stand-up comedian did an excellent job by keeping the audience engaged and enthralled throughout the show. His ability to handle some challenges that occurred at the beginning of the show, has earned him a resounding applause from patrons of the event.
Also in attendance were dignitaries such as David Dontoh, Ama K Abebrese, Timothy Bentum and Ken Fiati.
