The Management of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) on Thursday directed all personnel to remain at post and continue to discharge their duties entrusted to them until they were directed otherwise.
"All beneficiaries, especially the Health Extension Workers (HEW) should remain at post and continue to discharge duties entrusted to them until otherwise directed,” a statement by the Ministry of Manpower Youth and Employment said in Accra.
The statement was in reaction to rumours making rounds that NYEP beneficiaries had been asked to quit their jobs.
"This rumour we believe is a sinister ploy to discredit the image of the new administration that was ushered into office barely a week ago.
“We wish to state emphatically that there is no iota of truth in that assertion."
The Ministry assured the public that the new government had not issued any directive to dispense with the services of beneficiaries of the programme as being peddled by sections of the public.
It therefore advised the originator of the rumour to desist from creating panic and causing unnecessary anxiety among the youth engaged under the NYEP since one of the priority areas of the current administration was to create jobs for young people so they could lead better lives and contribute to national development.
