Preliminary contests of the annual National Science and Maths Quiz (2022) took off on Monday, October 10.
Twenty-four schools competed on day one of the prelims to secure a spot at the one-eighth stage.
Amaniampong Senior High School was one of the first schools to get a ticket to the next stage. They beat St Monica's SHS and Abuakwa State College to win their competition.

They led the game with 57 points, St Monica's trailed behind with 23 and 20 points went to Abuakwa State.
Sunyani Senior High School, Northern School of Business and Nalerigu SHS also battled for a position at the one-eighth stage.
Sunyani SHS got the chance to move forward to the next stage with 19 points.
St James Seminary/SHS is walking into the one-eighth stage with 60 points.
They competed with Assin State College and Bongo SHS who finished the competition with 40 and 11 points respectively.
Also securing a place at the one-eighth stage with 60 points is Osei Tutu SHS.
They competed against Nifa SHS, who finished with 27 points, and Boso SHTS who finished with 22 points.

Contestants from Sakafia Islamic SHS made their people proud when they secured a spot at the one-eighth stage with 56 points.

They beat Aggrey Memorial SHS and Yilo Krobo SHS who finished with 27 and 25 points respectively.
Drobo SHS stunned Archbishop Porter Girls' and St Mary's Sem/SHS to win their competition.
They beat Porter Girls with only one point securing their spot with 33 points.
Ofori Payin SHS was the next school to grab a seat at the one-eighth stage.
They won their competition against Adiembra SHS and Akumfi Ameyaw SHTS with 34 points.
Apam SHS finished their competitions with an impressive 44 points.
They competed against Ghanata SHS and St Margaret Mary SHS.

They won a spot at the one-eighth stage after beating Ghanata SHS with two points.
As one of the schools to compete on day one, St Thomas Aquinas SHS scored the highest point of the day.
With 85 points St Thomas Aquinas is through to the one-eighth stage.

Eguafo-Abrem SHS and Pong Tamale SHS trailed behind with 23 points and one point respectively.
For some of these schools who lost today's contest and those who will lose theirs in the coming days, the prelims may not be the last NSMQ competition for them this year.
About 18 schools who had high marks but did not win, after a tally, will gain a chance to compete in the one-eighth stage.
