Contestants for the three schools scheduled to compete in this year's National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) finals have vowed to deliver another action-packed contest on Friday, November 26.
Recounting their experiences with JoyNews' Manuel Koranteng on Thursday, ahead of the contest, the students said the previous stages were tough and challenging, and they do not expect anything less.
Presbyterian Boys' Secondary School (Presec-Legon), Prempeh College and Keta Senior High Technical School were winners from their respective semi-final face off in the grand finale.
Any of the schools that lifts the trophy will make NSMQ history.
Presec-Legon will make history by winning an unprecedented seventh NSMQ title.
For Prempeh College, it will be their fifth trophy, and they make history by being the first school in the Ashanti Region to have won the contest in their backyard.
Ketasco will be remembered for being the first Volta Region school to have won the contest.
Presec-Legon's Joel Aboagye said "we’ve put in a lot, we’ve sacrificed a lot and I think we are very capable of it [winning the quiz] in spite of how challenging and competitive it will be."
He added that [they] don’t expect it to be easy but it is in the difficult times that God shows His light to His favourites; so, we believe very strongly that we’d be bringing the seventh trophy."
The defending champions are currently riding on the mantra, 'we are seven a living God' which demonstrates their readiness to grab the coveted prize back-to-back in their cabinet.
The 'Eagles' from the Volta region expressed their excitement of making it to the finals for the first time since the inception of the national competition.
Keta SHTS edged out Wesley Girls' SHS and Tamale SHS in the semi-final race to book their spot in the grand finals.
According to Bright Senyo Gadzo, "from the one-eighth stage contest through to the quarter-finals and then the semi-finals, it wasn’t easy at all but because of God’s favour and grace, and also by our hard work and perseverance, we were able to make it to the finals of the competition."
The Ketasco contestants say they believe in the “God of ONE-ders” to deliver a historic victory for them but for the success chalked so far, they are more than excited.
Here comes the 'seniors' who are hopeful of keeping the trophy in the Ashanti region “to Glory-FIVE the Lord." The Prempeh College contestants have shown their zeal to carry the day tomorrow.
Eden Obeng told JoyNews that this year's competition has been quite different from that of last year but his team is in contention of winning the ultimate prize.
"These guys are equally good; they are also super heroes so it means it’s quite challenging and it will be very difficult for one to just lift the trophy but we know that with God on our side anything is possible," he said.
Meanwhile, the Managing Director of Primetime Limited, Nana Akua Ankomah-Asare, has expressed excitement over the modernized and innovative use of puns by schools to send a specific message to their contenders and fan base.
She stated that "everybody can catch the fun and I’m sure it’s going to be lots of fun. You’ve met all the contestants, you already know what they are capable of doing and they're going to give a good show [tomorrow]."
The much-anticipated event will happen at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) auditorium. This will be aired on JoyNews and Myjoyonline.com.
A closing ceremony scheduled for 2 pm according to Mrs Akua Ankomah-Asare, will precede the main event to determine who carries the trophy and earns the bragging rights as 2021 NSMQ champions.
