The Electoral Commission has declared the New Patriotic Party’s Charles Forson as the winner of the Tema Central election.
The EC announced on Sunday, January 5, 2025, after it collated outstanding polling station results following a court order on Saturday.
At the end of the collation of the two outstanding polling stations, as directed by the court, NPP’s Charles Forson polled 18,870 votes, as against Ebi Bright of the NDC’s 18,815.
An Independent candidate polled 209 with a rejected vote of 114, out of a total votes cast of 38,038.
Tema Central is among the four constituencies still in contention between the two major parties with barely 2 days more for parliament to swear in newly-elected MPs.
The New Patriotic Party had gone to court over the declaration of the NDC's Tema Central Candidate as the winner of the polls on the basis that collation was inconclusive and that the wrong individual declared the winner of the polls.
The High Court in Accra upheld the NPP's argument in a ruling on Saturday January 4, and ordered the Electoral Commission to complete the collation with adequate security from the Ghana Police Service.
The NPP had rulings going in their favour regarding the other three constituencies namely Ablekuma North, Techhiman South and Okaikwei Central.
Following the ruling, the EC immediately commenced the collation today ostensibly to conclude and gazette the results before the swearing-in of new MPs.
Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has served notice of appeal against the High Court's ruling on all the four constituencies.
