New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Francis Addai-Nimoh has urged delegates for the upcoming presidential primary not to vote for a candidate currently holding a government position.
He believes that choosing a candidate from the current government would jeopardise the party's chances in the next election.
Addai-Nimoh, positioning himself as an experienced contestant, emphasised the importance of breaking away from this trend.
He stressed that he, as a candidate not currently part of the ruling government, offers a fresh perspective.
“The trend is if after eight years you go for someone who was in government to be your flagbearer, then that Party is signing its opposition warrant."
“So, if you vote for Addai-Nimoh, you know that among the four candidates, the only person who is not part of the ruling government led by Nana Akufo Addo is Addai-Nimoh.
"So, this trend is there. The only thing to do is to depart from the trend,” he said.
About 200,000 NPP delegates are set to vote in the primary scheduled for November 4, 2023.
The contenders include Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Francis Addai-Nimoh, and Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto.
