The Director-General of the National Lottery Authority ( NLA), Sammi Awuku, may go unopposed in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries in the Akuapem North constituency in the Eastern region.
As of the close of November 30, none of the prospective parliamentary aspirants had picked up the nomination forms to participate in the contest.
In an interview with the constituency chairman, Mensah Bonsu, he mentioned that Sammi Awuku has been providing financial assistance to the constituency, so he is not surprised by the turn of events.
“Sammi Awuku has been supporting the constituency financially, his doors are always open for people, I’m not surprised if he goes unopposed,“ he said.
The NPP opened nominations for the Akuapem North Parliamentary primary on Tuesday, November 28, 2023.
The party in a statement signed and issued by its General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong announced that it would close nominations on Thursday, November 30, 2023
“The party has also approved detailed Rules and Regulations to govern the conduct of the parliamentary elections, which will be made available to stakeholders.“
The NPP will conduct their parliamentary primaries in the orphan constituencies on Saturday, December 2, 2023, and Sunday, December 3, 2023.
The party will also elect its parliamentary candidates on January 20, 2023.
