NPP MP opposes GT sale

The controversial Member of Parliament for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa, P C Appiah Ofori has opposed the sale of government’s 70% share in GT sale to Vodafone. He said the deal was not in the interest of neither the country nor the New Patriotic Party of which he is a member. Mr. Appiah Ofori is noted for fighting corruption and opposing sensitive decision taken by the government. He told Joy News’ Dzifa Bampoe that he will argue against the sale agreement when the report of the Joint Committee on Finance and Communications is laid before the house on Thursday. Asked whether he would convince members of his party to vote against the bill, Mr. Ofori said he would only make his opinion known to the house without necessarily galvanizing support against the bill. He could however not confirm whether he would vote for or against the bill but maintained, rather vigorously, that he would not be whipped in line to vote for the bill. “No body can whip me into doing something that is not in the interest of the country.” He swore. Mr. Ofori said his objection to the 70% sale was purely based on accounting principle adding that the sale will lead to a loss rather than a benefit to the country.
