Thousands of supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Wednesday defied heavy rainfall to hear their leaders at the party’s last regional rally held at Akim-Oda in the Eastern Region.
President John Agyekum Kufuor, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the party’s presidential candidate, and other leading members addressed them.
They included the National Chairman, Mr Peter Mac Manu, Mr Felix Owusu Adjepong, the Energy Minister, Hackman Owusu-Agyeman, Yaw Osafo-Marfo and Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey.
President Kufuor repeated that the December 7 poll was about the future of the country and said it was only an NPP Government under Nana Akufo-Addo that could be trusted to take the nation into the future.
“The spirit of Ghana is embodied in the NPP”, he declared to deafening applause of the huge crowd, and urged the electorate to vote massively to return the party to power.
He stated that the last eight years had seen a resurgence of “the national spirit” and tremendous progress, which he said, must be sustained and not to be allowed to be reversed.
President Kufuor said the nation must move forward and it was the NPP that could take it forward.
Nana Akufo-Addo pledged to complete all ongoing projects started by the Kufuor Administration.
“We promised positive change and we have delivered to the satisfaction of Ghanaians.”
He said industrial development was where his administration would be leading the nation and expressed confidence that particularly the youth, was going to support the NPP.
Nana Akufo-Addo told the party’s supporters that he was into politics to contribute to the building of Ghana into a free and prosperous nation.
He encouraged all qualified voters not to be frightened by threats of violence by any group but to troop in their numbers to cast their ballot.
Mr Mac-Manu urged vigilance on the part of the party’s polling agents on the day of the election.
Speaker after speaker at the rally, expressed optimism that the NPP would chalk a historic electoral success, come Sunday, December 7.
