Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, the National Campaign Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), says the party has excellent chance of winning the 2008 Election because it has made a lot of progress in its on-going campaign.
He said NPP was enjoying enormous support in and outside the country, especially when the campaign team went to the United States to source investment and solicit resources for the country.
Dr Apraku said this indicated that the NPP would emerge victorious, even though there were some challenges like the capturing of more seats in the Volta Region and some parts of the three Northern Regions.
The NPP National Campaign Director made these remarks when he inaugurated the Central Regional Campaign Monitoring Team at Elmina.
He urged the monitoring team to strategize and work harder to strengthen the party at the regional level to ensure sound victory in the December Election and said the group was expected to “re-energize the support base of the Party.”
Dr Apraku said even though the NPP national delegates’ congress to elect a flag bearer resulted in divisiveness and bitterness, the national campaign team has been able to reconcile and unite all aggrieved members.
He urged the monitoring team to appreciate the “task ahead and bring on-board” all members in the region to form a formidable party that would be able to strategize and work hard to ensure victory in the forthcoming polls.
Dr Apraku urged the chairman of the monitoring team, Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong to initiate measures to reconcile all aggrieved members of the party particularly, those who become bitter after, the parliamentary primaries to enable the NPP win all the 19 seats in the region.
Other members of the monitoring team were Nana Ato Arthur, Central Regional Minister, Mr Kwamina Bartels, a leading member of the party, Ms Mercy Arhin, Metropolitan Chief Executive for Cape Coast and Mr Kwamina Duncan, NPP Regional Secretary.
The rest were Alhaji Jibril, Regional Organizer, Nana Ama Abrafi, Women’s Organizer, Mr Adjei Baffour, Mr Koranteng Addo both members of the Party, Ms Yaa Arhin, an assembly member and Mr Ekow Danquah-Smith.
He urged the monitoring group to articulate the concerns and views of the zonal and constituency teams to the national team.
Mr Mac Manu, NPP National Chairman, praised party members in the region for performing “marvelously well” in the 2004 Election but said the issues at that tine were different from the current situation.
He urged the monitoring team to accommodate divergent views and suggestions and work harder to consolidate the NPP gains to enable it to win the three orphaned seats in addition to the newly created ones in the region.
Nana Arthur said the NPP has a difficult task ahead but it would leave no stone unturned to win all the 19 seats in the region and cautioned members against complacency.
Mr Agyepong urged members to work hard to solve all problems in the party to enable NPP to score the “winning goal” because, just like in soccer, both the NPP and the National Democratic Congress have scored two goals and were awaiting the penalty shoot-outs in the 200 Election.
