The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is running a dynamic and aggressive campaign as per IMANI’s PULSE Episode 11, which highlights the party’s significant online presence.
For every 10 mentions of the NDC, the NPP records 15 mentions, reflecting its intense outreach since announcing Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as its candidate.
The report highlights that 78% of online commentary about Dr Bawumia’s campaign is positive.
His extensive tours across the country and promotion of technological advancements, such as the CitizenApp, have generated significant support.
Social media mentions related to his vision for Ghana’s future development stand at 82% positive.
Despite this, Dr Bawumia faces notable challenges, particularly concerning economic issues.
A significant 65% of endorsements and polls carried negative sentiments, with critics pointing to Ghana’s economic difficulties under the NPP.
Dr Bawumia’s famous “fundamentals are weak” quote continues to haunt his campaign as the cedi depreciates, generating negative reactions.
Corruption allegations and the NPP’s handling of illegal mining (galamsey) have also fueled discontent.
Nonetheless, Dr Bawumia’s focus on digital transformation and his broad appeal across different demographics continue to buoy his campaign, ensuring the NPP remains a strong contender.
