Abubakar aka Abu Terror, a notorious armed robber who has been on the wanted list of the Nima Police for the past six months, has finally been grabbed by the Nima Neighbourhood Watchdog Committee and handed over to the Divisional Commander.
With relief on his face in view of the big catch, Chief Superintendent Awuni Angwubutoge told DAILY GUIDE that Abu Terror was responsible for a number of armed robberies especially on motorbikes, but the Police was unable to track him down until yesterday.
In February this year Abu Terror, the Commander said, attacked a woman in her house and demanded some money from her “but when she refused to oblige, he stabbed her on the arm and above the eyebrow”.
As if that was not enough, Abu Terror came back to terrorise the woman, but she reported him to the Police.
“We organized the Neighbourhood Watchdog Committee to track him down but nothing came out of that because Abu Terror had left his usual place of abode. We sent fillers all over the place but still he remained out of reach,” the Divisional Commander said.
Abu Terror however ran out of luck when the Watchdog Operatives, during a jogging session, saw a crowd around the Nima mosque and stopped to behold what was happening.
Abu Terror, they discovered, was holding on to a woman whom he claimed had collected money from him for sex but failed to fulfill her side of the deal.
He was therefore demanding the money he ostensibly gave her but unfortunately for him the neighbourhood watchers recognized and pounced on him.
When he discovered he was destined for the Nima Police Station, he resisted because he knew he had been on the wanted list of the station for sometime now.
He posed a question when a DAILY GUIDE cameraman was about to take his photograph: “Why do you want my picture? Am I an exhibit?”
The suspected armed robber was reported to have been boasting about escaping incarceration even if he was arrested.
He had been identified by a female victim as the man who attacked and stabbed her.
In his remarks, the Divisional Police Commander said, “Credit for the in-road goes to the Neighbourhood Watchdog Committee which succeeded in tracking the suspect down. Let criminals in Nima know that the suburb no longer has room for their likes. No matter how long they elude us we would catch up with them and deal with them according to the law.”
The Nima Police, in collaboration with the neighbourhood watchers, have made significant arrests in the past months.
A few weeks ago the watchers led the Police to a kiosk in which a number of offensive weapons were retrieved and suspects arrested.
Two of the suspects, including a certain Rashid Nuru, were dispatched to Kumasi on request of that region’s police command.
On reaching the Ashanti Regional capital it was discovered that the two were responsible for a number of armed robberies in Kumasi and other locations nearby.
Two 18-year-old boys were also arrested after attacking a woman in her room at Accra Newtown and using super glue to seal the mouth of her seven-month-old baby to stop her from crying and attracting attention.
