Ranking Member on Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has condemned the American rapper, Meek Mill's use of the Jubilee House to shoot a video.
Speaking in an interview on Joy FM’s Midday News on Monday, he described the act as a despicable desecration of the Jubilee House and called for the dismissal of those responsible for allowing him use the facility.
In a viral video on social media, American rapper, Meek Mill featured the President's podium as well as parts of the Jubilee House in a teaser for a music video.
Meek Mill was seen in the company of a group of other backers rapping at the seat of government.
The content of the video has since generated backlash from Ghanaians as they say the act has compromised the security of the Jubilee House.
While others have equally expressed their displeasure about the use of the Jubilee House, other section of the public lauded its use arguing that it holds a marketing value for the country.
Reacting to this, the legislator pointed out that Meek Mill’s video does not in any way promote the country to the world.
“Go listen to the music, no mention of Ghana and the explicit content. How our women are even denigrated – the sexism, misogyny, swear words, nothing in that content promotes or projects Ghana,” he emphasised.
According to him, “anybody that watches this video in the international arena will rather be disgusted and ask what country is that.”
This, he explained is because “The seat of government in every country is an embodiment of the collective image - everything the people hold dear.”
“Which country will open the seat of government, give its presidential lectern for such explicit content, for these totally offensive lyrics to be out? This is horrendous,” he said.
As a result, he called on the President to apologise to Ghanaians since the act has brought shame to Ghanaians.
Meanwhile, Meek Mill has deleted the music video he filmed at the Jubilee House from his Instagram page.
Per multiple checks by MyJoyOnline.com, the video, which the rapper uploaded on Sunday evening is no longer available on his Instagram page as of Monday morning.
