Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are among the key names missing from the 2024 FIFPro Men's World XI team which was revealed earlier on Monday, December 9.
This marks the end of Messi's 17-year consecutive appearance in the FIFPro Team of the Year. The Inter Miami forward has been in every World XI team since 2011.
The team, voted by professional footballers from around the globe, was without the Argentine skipper and Portugal captain for the first time in a long while.
Real Madrid have the biggest number of representatives on the list (6) while Manchester City have four with the other being Liverpool.
The team is led by Erling Haaland who has been an instrumental figure for Manchester City and starred for them in their Premier League triumph last season.
The Man City man is joined by Real Madrid duo, Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior in attack.
Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri, Toni Kroos and Jude Bellingham are the midfielders chosen for the year under review while the defence comprises Dani Carvajal, Antonio Rudiger and Virgil van Dijk with Ederson in goal.
Some notable absentees like Lautauro Martinez, Cole Palmer, and Lamine Yamal raised quite a few eyebrows.
