Coach of Ghana’s surviving Africa campaigners, Hearts of Oak, has brushed aside reports of a goalkeeping crisis in his team.
The Phobians have used three goalkeepers in twelve FCPPL games and conceded 16 goals – one more than they have scored so far and look to be more vulnerable when Burkina Faso international Soulama Abdoulaye is away on national duty.
Head coach Herbert Addo is on record to have publicly criticized Ghana U-20 shot-stopper Seidu Mutawakilu for his early season blips.
Recently, third choice Tetteh Luggard got his chance to keep the post for the first time this season against Inter Allies. A miscommunication between him and defender Philip Boampong saw Hearts of Oak give away a cheap goal but the veteran Hearts gaffer says these must not be counted as crisis in his goalkeeping department.
“I don’t see any crisis. There have been one or two mistakes by certain players but that doesn’t mean there is crisis,” Addo said.
“Nothing is wrong with the goalkeepers. Who said there is something wrong with them? People are putting up all sorts of things.”
“The guy [Tetteh Luggard] is a very good goalkeeper, he was scored two goals [against Inter Allies]. If you ask anybody, it was just a mater an issue of the day so it is unfortunate that people are hitting him too hard but he is an experienced goalkeeper, he should put all those behind him.
“I like the way he is training this week. He is determined to correct his mistakes and prove everybody wrong.”
Hearts of Oak who eliminated Senegal’s Olympique de Ngor in the Caf Confederation Cup last Saturday are back in Ghana and will host Bolga Man City in the FA Cup on Thursday.
