The National Labour Commission (NLC) will on Wednesday, November 30, meet with the leadership of the striking labour unions in public universities.
The unions have been on strike for the past three weeks over what they say is government’s inability to comply with agreed conditions of service.
According to them, the adjusted ex-pump rate of GH¢10.99 being implemented to affect Vehicle Maintenance and Off-Campus Allowances is not commensurate with the current economic hardship.
The National Secretary of the University Teachers Association of Ghana, Dr Asare Asante Annor in a media interview, said they are poised to meet government.
According to him, they will go the negotiation table with an open mind.
“So we are going to meet on November 30, 2022. Two weeks ago we were supposed to meet, but we couldn’t because both the employer and TUTAG requested for some form of extra time.
However, over the last two weeks, we still have not been able to engage in any meeting, so we still haven’t found any solutions to the impasse.”
“The reasons why we still want to engage is the variations of the conditions of service, specifically the vehicle maintenance has not come. So if government is able to prepare distribution, then we will be happy, and I’m sure our members too will be happy,” Dr. Annor said.
Partaking in the strike action are the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), Senior Staff Association (SSA) and Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU).
