The Nkwanta District Registry of Births and Deaths registered 9,791 children below one year between 2001 and 2006.
Mr Emmanuel Paddison Assem, Nkwanta District Registrar of Births and Deaths told the GNA that 5,091 of them were boys and 4,700 girls.
He said 14,795 births above one year were registered within the period.
Mr Assem said records available indicated that there was an increase in the registration of births in 2006 over 2005.
He said 2,821 children below one year made up of 1,431 boys and 1,390 girls were registered in 2006 as against 2,491 made up of 1,307 boys and 1,184 girls in 2005.
Mr Assem said 489 children above one year were registered in 2005 and 229 children in 2006.
He said 74 deaths made up of 46 men and 28 women were recorded in 2005 as against 77 deaths made up of 53 men and 24 women in 2006.
