Emmanuel Ayitey Tagoe, Asafoatse/Secretary of Kokrobite in the Greater Accra Region, has discounted claims that Nii Ofei II has been removed as a sub-chief and caretaker of Kokrobite lands.
According to him attempts by Nii Ayinsah Sasraku to discredit Nii Ofei II on an alleged lack of communication to the family were to say the least, unfortunate.
In a strongly worded letter by his solicitors, Davies and Davis issued in Accra in reaction to the purported removal, Nii Ayitey Tagoe said references to Nii Ofei II as a caretaker amounted to an insult on his status as a sub-chief.
The statement dated 30th July, 2008 said Nii Ofei II succeeded his grandfather Nii Ofei I after his legitimate election and installation in 1960, and called for at least, a “modicum of respect he deserves as a sub-chief" for Nii Ofei.
Aryitey Tagoe also referred to a suit filed by Nii Ayinsah Sasraku III at an Accra Fast Track High Court with their subsequent defence which challenged his (Nii Ayinsah Sasraku III) status and capacity as the Dzasetse and Acting Mantse of the Nii Arde Nkpa We and expressed regret that Nii Ayinsah Sasraku III will instigate a removal of Nii Ofei II, in spite of the pending suit.
This action he said was clearly in contempt of court.
The statement further called on the Nii Arde Nkpa We to put an end to the mudslinging against Nii Ofei, failing which they would take appropriate legal action against them.
“In the meantime desist from smearing and assassinating the traditional status, position and character of my client”, the letter advised.
The letter was copied to King Tackle Tawiah III Ga Mantse, the Inspector General of Police, the Member of Parliament for Weija, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, the Regional Lands Officer at the Lands Commission and the Registrar, Ga Traditional Council among several others.
