President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday directed that every means be explored for easing the visa issuance procedures for citizens of Nigeria and South Africa who wished to visit either of the countries.
He, therefore, directed Vice President Namadi Sambo, under the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission, to pursue the possibility of making issuance of visas to citizens of both countries easier.
Jonathan gave the directive when the Special Adviser on International Relations to President Jacob Zuma of South Africa, Hon. Charles Nqakula, delivered a special message to him at the State House, Abuja.
“I have told my Vice President, to quickly commence meetings of the Nigeria – South Africa Bi-National Commission, to look at issues such as issuance of visas for our citizens who need to transact business in our two countries,” Jonathan explained.
He assured Nqakula that his administration would continue to contribute to the overall development of the continent and expressed gratitude for the cordial relations between the two countries which would further be strengthened.
Nqakula said South Africa appreciated the role Nigeria was playing in the continent in developing Africa and pledged the commitment of his country in strengthening the Bi-national Commission for the protection of bilateral and multilateral interest.
